Bharat Shakti in collaboration with Ulsoor Bhavan of Sri Aurobindo Society, Bengaluru, is facilitating a series of talks for Ulsoor Bhavan’s community members through their facilitator based in Bengaluru, Ms. Chitra Kolluru. The theme for the talks was finalized in discussion with Ulsoor Bhavan as ‘the Twelves Soul Qualities from the Mother’s Symbol”.
Following the first two talks on Equality and Sincerity, that took place on June 28th and August 2nd respectively, the third one in the series on ‘Aspiration’ was organised on August 23rd; this time again on a hybrid mode with participants joining both online and in person at the Bhavan.
The session began by invoking the Divine Mother’s presence in her various forms of cosmic mother, cosmic energy and eternal peace through a Vedic Hymn. Ms. Chitra Kolluru then started by acknowledging the vastness of the topic of Aspiration and reminded the participants that we must approach the session with this understanding and humility.
Ms. Chitra started off right way with a comparison between Aspiration and Desire, unsettling popular notions and taking the spiritual turn on Aspiration being an inner attribute of the soul and involving self-giving as opposed to wanting to grab or receive as it is in the case of desire. She called Aspiration as the longest lasting human preoccupation that has accompanied him from ages. Through her explanations, she established the native connection of aspiration with humans through a story and many profound quotations from Sri Aurobindo from ‘The Life Divine’ and ‘The Mother’.
Ms. Chitra then took on powerful lines from Sri Aurobindo’s chapter on Human Aspiration, the very first chapter of The Life Divine, in stressing on how the flame of aspiration lives on in the most paradox setting of human life which is external, transitory, small and limited in capacity, yet nurturing dreams of God, Perfection and Immortality.
She brought out the need for a purity and a connection with our inmost self for Aspiration to take birth and grow in us. She also quoted the Mother’s mention of the Parijata flower’s qualities of being innumerable, obstinate and repeating endlessly, just like Aspiration must be.
Ms. Chitra then delved into the Vedic symbolism of Agni as Aspiration. She elaborated that the properties of physical fire, its heat and light and power to purify and transform, correspond with the psychic aspiration, which transforms our outer nature so that Divine qualities may be born within. She closed the talk by reading a few invocations to Agni and concluding with what Sri Aurobindo has said on ‘How to Aspire’.
The talk was followed by an immersive watching of the video by Art Studios on Aspiration.
The session was attended by about 30 people, including online and at the Bhavan. The questions that followed were on how one can cultivate purity which is essential to harbouring Aspiration and how the spirit of self-giving in Aspiration would begin to pay off the mutual debt between Gods and humans, which spurred interesting conversations.
