Excerpt from the Foreword
Through their stupendous Supramental Yoga, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother opened the way for a new future of the earth. With the manifestation of the Supramental Consciousness which is now active in the earth environment, we arrived at a new turning point in human history. This consciousness is working toward the creation of a new world built on Truth.
But how may we actively collaborate in this important adventure of consciousness? How can we prepare ourselves and future generations for the new consciousness and new world? A new world built on Truth demands that whatever may be the context of our life and work, whether we are parents, educators, corporate employees, entrepreneurs, administrators, homemakers, college and university students, artists, bureaucrats, technicians, managers, performers, service industry professionals or engaged in any other line of work, we must prepare ourselves with utmost sincerity for a life-long seeking of the truth – within and without. This demands consistent inner work, consistent pursuit of the goal – Know Thyself.

The present volume ‘Compassionate Awareness: Transforming Conflict into Wisdom‘ authored by Jayashree Ashok highlights in an engaging and reader-friendly manner several aspects of the inner work that must become an important part of our lives if we are serious about knowing ourselves deeply. As parents and educators, if we want our future generations to grow up as conscious, self-aware, responsible, emotionally balanced and forward-thinking human beings, we must constantly step back and check in on our journeys of growing in self-awareness.
This inner work must be undertaken with a deep sense of acceptance and compassion towards ourselves and the others if it has to have a sustainable and transformative impact in our growth journeys. In this regard, the book shows us in a concrete manner, not only the ‘what’ of this important aspect of our life-long education, but also ‘how’ one may make that education possible through its numerous ‘Inner check-in’ exercises and also a helpful Appendix which includes several practical tools and techniques.
The author, Jayashree Ashok, co-founder of Creative School and Prajña Living Wisdom Centre, is a visionary educator who led by a deep personal shift in consciousness left an illustrious career in IT and took a plunge into the world of education and healing. Deeply inspired by the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother on Integral Education, and with a sincere intent to make these profound teachings applicable in a living breathing environment of an educational community that aims to provide integral development of students and teachers alike, over the years Jayashree has developed and successfully put into practice innovative frameworks such as Sacred Parenting, Sacred Classroom, and Life and Living.

This latest book of hers ‘Compassionate Awareness:Transforming Conflict Into Wisdom’ connects several important threads related to Vital Education – an important aspect of Integral Education. As per Sri Aurobindo’s and the Mother’s integral view of what a human being is, the vital part in human beings is the life-nature made up of desires, sensations, feelings, passions, energies of action, will of desire, and reactions of the desire. All the play of possessive and other related instincts such as anger, greed, lust, etc. belong to this field of nature. The vital part in us can become a true instrument only when its feelings and tendencies have been purified by the inner growth of consciousness and governed by a higher, spiritual light and power.
