BharatShakti, Sri Aurobindo Society, in collaboration with AuroYouth wing of Sri Aurobindo Society, J P Nagar Centre, Bangalore, organized a webinar on Conscious Conception under the umbrella theme of ‘Conscious Parenting’, with the title: ‘Aspiring for a Brighter Future: Planning for Progeny Consciously’.
Ms. Vijaylakshmi Vijay and Ms. Chitra Kolluru, facilitators, BharatShakti were the speakers for the day. Ms. Vaishali from Sri Aurobindo Society, J.P. Nagar was the moderator for the session. Dr. Beloo Mehra, Director BharatShakti and Dr. Utpala Kharod, Dr. Utpala Kharod, Secretary of Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra, Vallabh Vidyanagar and former Pro-vost of Bhaikaka University also attended the webinar.

The webinar was open to anyone interested in the evolutionary future of human race and the Mother’s guidance on prenatal education. But the primary intended audience were the youth, specifically the members of Auro Youth Wing affiliated to the SAS JP Nagar Centre were the target audience, keeping in mind the relevance of the topic to their life stage. About 25 people across various age groups attended the programme.
Ms. Chitra Kolluru set the stage by unpacking the layers embedded in the topic itself and what it means to aspire for a brighter future in terms of wideness and brightness of aspiration. She briefly explored the question – when we speak of the future typically how far and wide are we capable of thinking and dreaming?

In essence, Ms. Kolluru called upon the attendees to expand their horizons beyond their small self and a narrow time horizon by instilling into them the boldness and far sightedness of our ancient sages. She then spoke about the importance of conscious action for a beautiful outcomes. In so doing, she set the tone for the attitude one must carry when understanding and embracing ‘Conscious Conception’. She closed her piece with the evolving aspect of ‘family’ and its continuing importance for nurturing a new life.
Ms. Vijaylakshmi Vijay is a parent of two teenagers, and a mother who conceived both children through conscious conception in the light of Mother’s teachings. Building upon the points brought to light by Ms. Kolluru, Ms. Vijaylakshmi brought in the core teachings of the Mother on the topic. She raised a mirror to the audience right at the beginning by calling out the amount of planning we normally take on for any new project or task in life but many a time act of getting pregnant can go unplanned and unprepared or ill-prepared.

With the help of a beautiful story, Ms. Vijaylakshmi spoke about the possibility of influencing mind, life and even body of the new- born through thoughts, words, actions and the environment we create at home even before the child’s birth. Through various powerful quotations of the Mother on the topic, she drove home the relevance and importance of conceiving through conscious involvement of the parents-to-be.
Ms. Vijaylakshmi then established what it is to conceive consciously by analyzing it at two levels – 1) Human Consciousness – the act of being aware and involved at a human level, and 2) Consciousness of the Divine – the act of recognizing the presence of a Divine Will and willingly collaborating to bring the right soul into the family. She inspired couples to take up the journey through examples from our own history and left them with a clue on the act being nothing short of Sri Aurobindo’s Triple Labour of Aspiration-Rejection-Surrender.

The talks elicited some good discussion at the end. The session concluided with a call for interested folks to reach out for further assistance and a continued engagement through other forums, and an announcement of an in-person event to follow in subsequent months.
