The video content (6) and reference materials (3) for this course, researched and delivered by Dr. Beloo Mehra, explores the theme of gender equality through the lens of Indian spiritual philosophy. Drawing insights from Indian cultural traditions and the writings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, the course invites learners to examine gender not merely as a social construct but as a manifestation of a deeper spiritual truth.

Through reflective discussions and thought-provoking questions, participants will gain a richer appreciation of the Indian spiritual vision of oneness and its implications for understanding the true essence of man and woman as complementary aspects of the same reality. For a deeper engagement with the topic, three articles written by Dr. Beloo Mehra are provided as additional reading and reference material.

This course delves into the concept of gender equality from a spiritual and cultural perspective, grounded in the Indian worldview that perceives Spirit as the essential One Reality manifesting in all existence. From this foundation, the discussion explores how man and woman—though distinct in nature—are essentially expressions of the same divine consciousness, representing two aspects of a unified whole.

The course examines several key themes, including:

  • The concept of Woman as Shakti
  • The status of women in ancient India
  • Insights from the past that can inspire a new ideal for the future
  • The relationship between individual choice and collective responsibility
  • An integral Indian view of feminism

Participants are encouraged to engage with the reference materials provided, which offer deeper insights into the ideas presented and help broaden their understanding of the topic. Short reflection quizzes included after each section support thoughtful engagement with the content.

In the coming months, BhāratShakti department will be preparing more courses on topics relevant for civil servants. Our guiding principle when selecting the course topic and preparing learning content is that the material should help the government officials appreciate and develop a deeper spiritual perspective and rethink their attitudes on topics related to work and life.

Professionals working at various levels of Indian administrative, civil and bureacratic services are important pillars of the nation-building work. As New India continues to rise, it is critical that they develop a more India-centric perspective as well as appreciate a future-oriented psycho-spiritual vision such as the one we have from Sri Aurobindo.

In this regard, we are happy to contribute to the work of disseminating the Light and Vision of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother while simultaneously contributing to the work of reawakening the innate Bharata Shakti.
