The Best of Sri Aurobindo Circle

 BI-ANNUAL PUBLICATION

Sri Aurobindo Circle was started with the Mother’s blessings from Bombay in 1945. The Mother gave its name and wrote it in her own handwriting which it carried right through. It contained articles on a range of topics from senior members of Sri Aurobindo Ashram as well as other sadhaks, scholars and devotees. Its publication was discontinued in 1998.

To make some of these gems available to the current audience, in August 2025 we launched The Best of Sri Aurobindo Circle, a bi-annual online publication to be released on August 1 and February 1 every year.

Volume 1, Issue 2
RELEASE DATE: February 1, 2026

Editor’s Note: The February 2026 issue features a delightful essay titled Sri Aurobindo and Indian Aesthetics by Sisirkumar Ghose. This essay was first published in the 1968 issue of Sri Aurobindo Circle. We feature the full essay in three parts, with updated references and slight reformatting to make online reading more comfortable. Each part has been given a different title by the editors to bring out its essential point.

Sri Aurobindo has not merely theorised about the deeply subjective and spiritual tradition of Indian aesthetics, but through his spiritual poetry he has actually renewed this sanatana tradition and made it a living truth for the modern sensibility. Ghose gives specific examples of Sri Aurobindo’s poems as examples of the deep philiosophy, principle, and purpose of Indian aesthetic vision as reflected in Sri Aurobindo’s literary work.

Readers will also find links to a few videos inspired by some of poems mentioned in the essay.
