As part of our ongoing exploration of ‘Spirit and Forms of Indian Art’ through our online journal Renaissance, we are organizing a special evening programme focusing on Hindustani Classical Music. This lecture-demonstration will be held on March 25, 2025 at Sri Aurobindo Society, ground floor hall.
The programme starts at 5:45 PM. We request all to please be seated 5 minutes before the start time.
The entire flow of the lecture-demonstration has been planned by Ms. Deepshikha Reddy, who has also coordinated with all the other artists performing with her.

About the musicians:
Ms. Deepshikha Reddy
With deep interest and extensive experience in the fields of integral education, music, painting, administration and more, Ms. Deepshikha Reddy brings with her a great wealth of practical wisdom and insight. She had the blessing of learning directly from the Mother regarding how to live and grow consciously; something she has been sharing for several decades through her work as an educator and facilitator. Her deep interest and passion for music started in her childhood, growing up with a father who was an accomplished Sarod player. She sings mostly semi-classical and bhajans and is actively involved with the Music Section at Sri Aurobindo Ashram. She has a Master’s degree in History from Delhi University. In addition to having served as Teacher and Principal at Sri Aurobindo International School, Hyderabad, she has conducted Value Education programmes in Schools in Pondicherry for more than 10 years. She also served as the Principal of Udavi School, Auroville, and worked as a teacher in Aspiration School, Auroville for 5 years.
Arjita
Arjita is an alumni of the Ashram school (SAICE) and has had her musical training under various teachers at school as well as from her father, late Shri Arun Bishnu Chowdhury. She was a language teacher by profession and holds a Master’s Degree in Sanskrit. At present, she is working in the area of content development. She has been training in classical music under Shri Abhijith Shenoy for more than a decade. She has also learnt Bengali songs and Bhajans from Smt. Tapati Das and a few other inmates at the Ashram. For the past few years, Arjita has been part of the music section in the Ashram.
Uttam Ganguly
Uttam Ganguly is an inmate of Sri Aurobindo Ashram and has been living in Pondicherry since he was admitted in the KG of the Ashram school/SAICE. He has learnt Hindustani vocal music from several teachers. After his studies in 1988 he joined the Ashram & was inducted in the Music Section of SAICE where he is working as one of the part-time teachers. He continues his musical pursuit with his teacher Sri Bishnu Charan Panda.
Gauri Shankar
Gauri Shankar is an alumni of the Ashram school (SAICE) and had his basic musical training in vocal and tabla during his school days. Though his formal training in music has been rather limited, since a very young age, he has been participating in musical events both as a singer and percussionist. He has been a faculty in the Ashram school for more than fifteen years and devotes considerable time for various musical presentations.
