Date: April 4, 2026
Venue: Matriniketan
As part of the residential programme organized by Uditam: Institute for Integral Healing, Sri Aurobindo Society, Dr. Beloo Mehra, Director, BhāratShakti, was invited to facilitate a group discussion session on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Because this date marks the anniversary of Sri Aurobindo’s arrival in Pondicherry in 1910, Dr. Mehra led the discussion on the same theme.
Dr. Mehra began with some details about how the arrival of Sri Aurobindo (referred to as the Uttara Yogi) was predicted by the Guru of a local zamindar and the three affirmations that would make him recognizable. They were actually the three madnesses that Sri Aurobindo wrote about in a letter to his wife in 1905.

Dr. Mehra then shared some fascinating details of how Sri Aurobindo travelled incognito from Chandannagar to Pondicherry in 1910 under a false name along with a companion; how the rumour was spread that one of the passengers was suffering from malaria so that they could remain isolated without attracting attention, the places where he stayed initially, how he met Subramaniya Bharati and they become friends; the financial difficulties faced by him and the political refugees like him etc.
Thereafter, Dr. Mehra spoke about how the British government tried “force, fraud and temptation” to make Sri Aurobindo leave Pondicherry but the way Sri Aurobindo resisted all of that and made the firm resolve that he was not going to leave the “seat of his Tapasya”.
She also made a reference to his divine experience during his imprisonment which guided him to choose his Cave of Tapasya. Finally, she mentioned the letter written to CR Das where he talked about the line of Sadhana he is pursuing and why he has to stay in Pondicherry for its fulfilment and the further realizations he achieved in the bringing down the Overmental and Supramental consciousness.
During the interaction with the participants, some other important points were covered. These included: what is new in Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga and what do we understand by the term Divine in the context of Integral Yoga. Dr. Mehra emphasised the significance of an integral conception of the Divine and added that this conception of the Divine also expands with our widening and heightening of the consciousness. The importance of Divinity in Matter and the three poises of the Divine – individual, universal and transcendent were also briefly discussed.

Emphasising the idea of life-affirming spirituality and the significance of transformation, Dr. Mehra explained that one of the most significant truths revealed by Sri Aurobindo concerns the essential impulse that is always working from behind the human civilisation’s progressive march toward its ultimate destiny. That destiny is to transform earthly life into a divine life, to bring down the kingdom of God on earth, to establish the true Ram-rajya, the true reign of dharma. All these are different conceptions given to the same aspiration hidden deep in the heart of humanity – that of perfecting Life and World.
The session was appreciated by all the participants. To learn more about our sessions conducted for Uditam, see HERE.
