Human Relations and Inner Progress – Interactive Session at Uditam

Date: March 27, 2026

Venue: Matriniketan

As part of the residential programme organized by Uditam: Institute for Integral Healing, Sri Aurobindo Society, Dr. Beloo Mehra, Director, BhāratShakti, was invited to facilitate a group discussion session on Friday, March 27, 2026. For her session, Dr. Mehra focused on the topic – Human Relations and Inner Progress.

The session happened on Ramanavami day, so Dr. Mehra began by sharing that the life of Sri Rama gives us many important psychological and spiritual insights on the subtleties of different kinds of relationships we form in our lives. She said that through the various roles and relationships we get to know more about ourselves, the various triggers behind the movements in our vital and mental parts.

A sincere and honest introspection helps us know grow in our self-awareness and progressive mastery of the various vital and mental reactions and movements within. This is how sadhana becomes connected with our daily life experience, Dr. Mehra said. And that is where the teaching of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother on Integral Yoga becomes so relevant because it is all-encompassing and does not leave out any aspect of life.

Dr. Mehra said that in Sri Aurobindo’s teaching, all life is yoga, so how can we not speak of human relationships in the light of yogic wisdom? She shared with the group that in the Renaissance journal the theme of Human Relations and Yoga has been dealt with extensively. Through an interactive discussion, she brought the group’s attention to the role of our ego-based preferences, vital and mental likes and dislikes in the misunderstandigns, conflicts and pain we ordinarily experience in our relationships. And how shifting the basis of our relationship to something deeper than that can help us improve the quality of relationships.

This led to some general discussion on exploring what is ‘deeper’ than the vital, and Dr. Mehra introduced the group to the term psychic being. She briefly explained how this true inner guide is there waiting silently for us to quieten down the noises of our vital and mental parts so that its gentle whisper can be heard.

Much of the session was conducted in an interactive manner. The participants brought some very interesting questions related to contemporary concerns which led the group to reflect on important topics. These included: increasing rate of separation and divorces in urban India, future of marriage and family, dealing with toxicity in work relationships, how to practice detachment while still being in family context, and a few others.

Overall the session was appreciated by all the participants. To learn more about our sessions conducted for Uditam, see HERE.
