Yuvā Shakti – Know Bhārat Through Art

Date: February 16, 2026

Venue: Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat

Sri Aurobindo helps us understand culture as a soul-mind-body complex through which a people’s collective consciousness is expressed. What is the place of art in this view of culture, and how does Art help us know a culture and a nation? These and other related questions will be part of an upcoming workshop for the youth.

This workshop is part of an ongoing learning initiative developed by the BhāratShakti, Sri Aurobindo Society, for the youth from Sardar Patel University titled ‘Yuvā Shakti‘ under which for the last three years, educational programmes have been conducted at Sri Aurobindo Society campus.

This year, the programme will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will involve about 50 university students, and the workshop will be conducted at Vallabh Vidyanagar. The second phase will involve about 25 students and shall be conducted at Sri Aurobindo Society in Pondicherry in the month of May or June.

On February 16, 2026, a workshop will be organized at Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Kendra at Vallabh Vidyanagar on the theme – Know Bhārat Through Art. The workshop will include discussions, engaging activities and collaborative work. Dr. Beloo Mehra will be the key facilitator from BhāratShakti department, and Dr. Rajeshwari Singh will be the coordinator for the entire programme.

Through a variety of learning activities, the workshop will highlight that Indian art, at its highest, is identical in its spiritual aim and principle with the rest of Indian culture. Even when focused on the material world and outer life, and things of external Nature, the art of India does not altogether get rid of the deeper spiritual seeing.

The workshop also aims to focus on the great importance of arts education and aesthetic development for human development – both from an individual and societal/national perspective.
